She hadn't meant for her to feel bad. "I… W-well, not… Not just Santana, I mean, all of them are s-sort of… Intimidating, and scary. I’m s-sure Santana’s nice, I mean, you’re her best friend and everything, but she doesn’t really like me. I’ve never much.. Spoken to her, but the one thing she did say to me before didn’t make it seem like she wanted me to be around, s-so." Lorelai stammered, and Brittany bit her lip. She reached forward, putting a gentle hand on the girl's knee.
"It's okay. I know Santana can be kind of mean sometimes. She's just kind of...mean." Brittany said, shrugging. She couldn't come up with another word for it. Santana was kind of mean and snappy, it was true. But she had a softer side that Brittany had seen while they were growing up, which was one of the reasons she had stayed best friends with the girl - to get a glimpse of that soft side every so often. (She wasn't going to think about her confusing feelings for her best friend right now, she had other things to think about.) "But not all of us are mean! I'm not, right?" She added, frowning slightly at the end of her last sentance, her forehead crinkling slightly. She hoped she hadn't come off as mean to the girl.

i tried to be like grace kellyB U T A L L H E R L O O K S W E R E T O O S A D- - - - - - - - - - - My gaze lowered to the hand on my knee and I sort of felt even worse for stammering like that. I mean, Santana was this Brittany girl’s best friend. I didn’t really have a best friend, or a good friend, for that matter (well, there was Rachel, but we were still building, I supposed) but I knew that if I did, I’d get really defensive at any insults shot their way. But at the same time, perhaps being mean was just Santana’s personality. I was sure there were people in the world who were just naturally mean, and I guess Brittany understood that Santana was one of them. I still felt bad, but at least she knew, right? So I didn’t hurt any chances at a friendship too much by making the comment.
I bit my lip and nodded as she explained that she knew Santana was mean. I offered her a weak smile and shrugged my shoulder. “I’m sure she’s really nice to you and everything,” I murmured, looking back up at her again, “But I guess she doesn’t like a lot of people. I understand. I don’t take it personally.” [/b] Well, I did, but that was because I just took everything personally. Nothing that was the Cheerio’s fault alone. I didn’t believe so, anyways. When Brittany asked if I found her mean, I straightened up and shook my head fervently. “No, no, no,”[/b] I urged, smiling gently at her, “You’re really nice. I’ll admit I was a bit afraid you’d hate me, ‘cause Santana does, but you’re not mean at all. At least, not to me. Don’t worry.”[/b] I nodded at her, then sank back, hoping I got my point across alright. I understand. I don’t take it personally." Lorelai said, and Brittany nodded. It was true, Santana really didn't like very many people. If Brittany could count well, she would probably say that the amount of people Santana could tolerate could be counted on one hand. As it was, Brittany knew that it was herself, Quinn, and Puck. Santana didn't really do well with others. She was that kid on the playground that had one friend and then threw sand at anyone else who tried to come near them. Most of the time, Brittany didn't have a problem with it. As long as she was the one who wasn't being made fun of or given snide remarks, she was okay. “No, no, no, you’re really nice. I’ll admit I was a bit afraid you’d hate me, ‘cause Santana does, but you’re not mean at all. At least, not to me. Don’t worry." Lorelai said, and Brittany smiled with relief. She really didn't like being mean to strangers, especially people she had just met. She liked making a good impression. "Oh, good." Brittany said, her smile widening. She leaned back in her chair, tilting her head slightly.
"So...you're friends with Rachel?" She asked, remembering seeing them talk at auditions. It was a topic of conversation that probably would let Brittany listen more than talk, even if she really didn't care much for Rachel.
