PERSONALITY,
If there's one thing that one should know about Mimi Riter, it's that she can be sweet as a button; she simply chooses not to be. Her hatred for society leads her to believe that very little people in this world deserve a sweet temper, though deep down she's somewhat aware that her bitterness and hatred leave her just as horrid as everyone else.
A lot of people have a negative first impression when they meet her. If they can't match her witty comment for witty comment, they will often find that she comes off cold and rude. Unless they catch her on a particularly good day, she's unbearably uptight around strangers. After a cold, condescending side-long glance, there's a chance that said person will acquire a negative comment of some sort.
Needless to say, Mimi is somewhat of a chore, especially when she wants to be. She can usually be found with a scowl etched into her innocent-looking features, leaving her difficult and bitter. She always sees the glass as 'half empty', rather, and loves blaming all of this on society.
She is very easily irritated. It doesn't take much to set her off, no matter what her mood is. Her list of pet peeves is quite extensive, and any hint of such could ruin her day. Of course, she's somewhat hypocritical in the sense that many of the things that set her off are things that she does herself - other bitter people, for example, or, ironically, hypocrites.
At times, she's sarcastic. At other times, she's blunt. Depending on the day and the situation, she is liable to crack back with any sort of comment she feels like. It's not an unpredictable thing, either - no, it's whatever witty thing comes to her mind first. Speaking of witty, she's usually got something of that sort up her sleeve. That's the extent of her humor, though, for the most part. Any purposeful joke tends to be lame, and sometimes, obvious. It amuses her, however, which is what counts.
She takes most things as a personal attack, which chases off most people. Sometimes, she'll even take an obvious joke and take it seriously. Very emotional, her self esteem is very low, and is often shaken by the smallest of comments. Her mind often twists things against her, which keeps her fretting over the smallest of things for months. "What If's" often run through her mind, which drive her insane. Unfortunately, Mimi is quite convinced that everyone hates her, unless something major happens to change her train of thought. She tends to get rather defensive.
With all of these negative opinions running through her head, it's clear that she has trust issues, especially with men (both due to men's notorious reputation as 'scum' and her own poor experience with men). Of course, once a person weasels their way in, she latches onto them and can become rather clingy - some may find it annoying of her, but she likes protecting what she has. Accompanying clinginess would also have to be 'loyalty', because the last thing she would ever want would be to betray those she trusts most.
Of course, there are times when she does have some joy in her - and when she is in a good mood, it's rather extreme. A cheesy grin is normally plastered to her face during positive moods, and she gets restless. Often hyperactive, it's almost corny and annoying how happy she can get. Thankfully, those times are indeed rare enough.
Mimi is a horrible liar - so many things give her away, and it's to the point where she doesn't even try and fib anymore. That would make her terribly honest - another reason why she's often 'blunt'. She has an issue with hiding what she is feeling, consequently, which displays her emotional persona and gets in the way of a lot.
Mimi is lazy in the sense that she does not like to do much of anything. Never having been athletic, she is the usual 'couch potato', save for the lack of junk food in the house. She often is found watching television or being too lazy to even go up and grab herself a soda. Of course, if she wants something enough, she'll get it.
She has always been a bright girl, acquiring good grades and useful facts over the duration of her schooling years. It's been said that she even sounds smart - a joke, of course, but she's very proper in dictation. She's also quite skilled in the artistic area, particularly in the writing, directing, producing, and singing/acting fields - a very determined girl, she will stop at nothing to achieve these dreams. After all, Mimi has always been rather goal-oriented.
She has always been very mature and self-reliant, probably a product of her distance from her family upon growing up (nothing sob-story worthy, I assure you, and it was more her own doing than any parents or siblings). She's responsible, and if she needs something, she'll get it. Very careful, any friends she had in High School referred to her as a 'party pooper', and the not-so-poetic nickname fit - she was often the one to talk reason into any pranks or wrongdoings.
To some extent, Mimi is open-minded. On one hand, she absolutely despises the majority of society and finds little excuse for idiocy. On the other, she supports many issues, such as same-gender marriage and other political matters. In fact, she's very opinionated, and will argue those beliefs to no end. Rather, she's an argumentative girl in the whole, and will be nitpicky just for the sake of bickering. She's very pensive, so she's able to back up her arguments quite well.
Mimi has a few other defining traits, as small as they are, that overall affect her everyday life. She appears to be indecisive, though she nearly always has something in her head that sway her to one thing or another. She is somewhat polite in the sense that she doesn't want to start a personal war over something trivial. She also never learned much patience, and she tends to be quite nosy.
HISTORY,
Mimi Mae Riter was born on the first of May in Jarrow, England. She was born to Catherine and Richard Riter, and was followed twenty-seven minutes later by her twin, Nicole. She was born with Growth Hormone Deficiency Disorder, and because her family couldn't afford the treatment, to this day she only stands at 4'8. Their three year old sister, Ally, was never excited by the idea of having younger siblings.
When Mimi was five years of age, things with her sister, Ally, began to go downhill. When Mimi swiped a doll and refused to give it back, Ally grew angry and pushed the small child down a flight of stairs. Mimi acquired the scar above her left eye from the blow, though she couldn't recall just how that happened if asked.
When Mimi and Nicole reached the age of five, their father took up drinking, though he was never violent, and the girls were rarely exposed to the man (they were always in bed before their father would come stumbling through the door). That simply lasted three years, however, before their father got help.
When Mimi was twelve, her place in the family began to be established. Ally and Nicole took up most of the attention; Ally with the negative, Nicole with the positive. It wasn't as though Mimi was neglected in any sort of way, but she was one to keep to herself. She picked up an addiction to coffee, and spent the majority of her time at a local coffee shop. To this day, she needs a lot of coffee to start her day if she wants to correctly function.
----
When Mimi was fourteen years old, almost ironically, her father was killed in a car crash by a driver who had been drinking. Everyone in the family dealt with the death in different ways; Mimi simply became more bitter and sarcastic, making it more difficult to break down the wall she put up. Nicole slid into a depression of sorts. Ally became more violent towards her younger sibling, and the sisters' mother took to dating.
Catherine Riter was an editor, while Gerard Morals was an author in the United States. Catherine traveled to the United States in order to meet with said man, for what was supposed to be a two week trip. During this time, fifteen year olds Mimi and Nicole were left in the care of eighteen year old Ally (who had never grown out of the sibling-abuse she enjoyed so much). When Catherine and Gerard hit it off, that two week trip morphed into a two month trip, before one dreaded phone call; the family was moving to the United States, and Catherine Riter was soon becoming Catherine Morals. Rushing, much?
The three girls picked up and moved to the United States. Ally, being of-age, never did meet Gerard more than once. She split from the family (much to Mimi's delight), and fled to California, where she heard all of the 'worthwhile' teens went. Mimi and Nicole, on the other hand, moved with the new couple to Staten Island, New York.
Her High School career was rather successful. Mimi passed with flying colors, top 3% of her class. She was bright, and definitely focused upon her school work, for she didn't much bother with personal relationships, other than the occasional passing friend and one High School boyfriend.
----
After High School, she attended New York University, where Mimi flitted around from careers such as singing, directing, and writing. She finally settled on a double major; English and Theatre Arts. She was at a complete loss as to what she wanted to do, though she knew the exact field she belonged in.
Her Junior year of college, she received a strange call from her sister, Ally, whom she hadn't heard from in years. They met up for coffee, and Mimi was pleased to see that her older sister had completely turned her life around. She and Ally became friends, and have established a normal sibling relationship.
After college, Mimi lived as a Bohemian for two years before landing a brief career in the Broadway spotlight. Unfortunately, a complicated tango with a fellow actor led to her demise - they were engaged and adored one another, though he apparently found interest in another actress.
That pretty much ruined things for Mimi, and while she officially regrets it, she dropped all chances at a Broadway career. She turned to her second great love; journalism. After working for a couple of smaller newspapers, she was discovered by the editor of the New York Times and was given a job there when she was twenty-nine years old.
This career, however, was short lived. Old habits die hard, and when a relationship with someone turned sour (his name was Gabriel), she was quick for a drastic change. After returning to school to get her license to teach, Mimi literally picked Lima, Ohio at random, got a job teaching English at the school, and has just moved. She will be starting her first year teaching at McKinley.
