PERSONALITY,
Say what you will about Brittany, but the one fact you could never argue was that she wasn’t friendly. Brittany opens her arms to the majority of people she meets, her sheltered childhood giving the girl a view on the world that hasn’t yet been dimmed by too many bad experiences. That isn’t to say she likes everyone she meets; Brittany isn’t known for being the brightest of students and before the Cheerios she experienced some trouble from the likes of Dave Karofsky and the other Neanderthals – she may be loyal till the end when it comes to her friends, but Brittany can certainly hold a grudge when it suits her.
Many would describe her as the ditzy blonde that follows Santana, but nothing could be further from the truth. Brittany provides the perfect calm to Santana’s powerful temper, the blonde often being the one to nudge others in certain directions than the other way around. Brittany has learnt that it’s all about being subtle, using persuasion and her friendly manner to get things done the way she wants. This isn’t to say Brittany hasn’t got a mean streak – being on the Cheerios has its’ expectations, one of them being to assert your authority over others, whether this be through barbed insults or a slushie facial. When you’re attached to the hip with Santana Lopez, you accept belittling others as part of that package.
Brittany is a follower, and joining the Cheerios gave her a variety of girls to follow from as they all fought for the position as Top Dog. The blonde would much rather do what she wants to do and ride the popularity wave from another than get into the messy politics of the high school hierarchy herself.
HISTORY,
Brittany Amelia Verhoeven was born on 31st December, 1993. Being born on New Years Eve has it’s pros and cons, though Brittany’s just happy it falls on a day she can remember easily. Admittedly, her big day is often overshadowed by the coming New Year, but the night always provides for excellent parties. Brittany had always lived a rather privileged lifestyle, her father having made a name for himself in the Netherlands in the Slushie industry before bringing his business (and his family) over to the United States. They moved when Brittany was six and to begin with she found it difficult to adapt to the English language, all but refusing to speak anything but her familiar Dutch until a year after the move. She soon familiarised herself with her new life, however, meeting a girl by the name of Santana Lopez who soon took her under her wing and insisted on sharing Brittany’s glitter crayons. The blonde didn’t mind – she was just happy to have made a friend.
Soon to join their group was Quinn during middle school, the girl deciding to take it upon herself to lead the student body. Always the follower, Brittany took Santana’s lead and did what she was told, her obedience earning her a privileged position of being protected by both Santana and Quinn. It would come in handy when it became apparent that Brittany wasn’t exactly the sharpest student, and without her two friends she would have been an easy target for bullies. Her high school years at McKinley have been a mixture of making out with near everybody, cheating from said people on pop quizzes and cheering with the Cheerios. Life changed when New Directions started, and Brittany suddenly found her loyalties split in every direction.
