PERSONALITY,
Well, where to begin with James here. When he was a child he was very quiet, preferring to read a good book in his room than interact with the fellow neighbors and their kids. Of course, he went with his parents to socialize with the neighbors, but he most always would bring a book with him and read by the dim porch light. People often questioned him, asking if he was alright or why he was so quiet. One could only imagine how he faired in high school, being so shy and all. Though he appears to be shy and quiet around people and large crowds, he's definitely the chatter bug when he's around family and friends he knows really well. He does have a short temper - and just a little of a short attention span. In fact, his mother often use to tease him about having the attention span of a Nat. He's a cool guy and often likes to tease his family and friends, mostly embarrassing them, but they all have a good laugh. He likes to play pranks on his students, sometimes getting carried away and earning a tackle from one of the guys on the football team.
HISTORY,
The one thing anyone really needs to know about his childhood was that he was a clumsy kid. At the age of three, he fell down his basement stairs, earning a good few stitches on his forehead. At the age of seven, he climbed a fence -one that was off limits - and when his mother came outside, he tried to climb down, but his pants loop hooked on one of the prongs, making him stuck. Before she could see him though, his three brothers attempted to take him down, but that only loosened it and down he fell, landing on his arm. Three hours and a doctor visit later, his arm was in a cast and he had to take painkillers every few hours, it hurt that badly. And when he was thirteen, him and his second eldest brother were jumping on the bed. They decided to stack pillows to see who could touch the ceiling first. Well, I think we all know how that ended. A hospital visit and eight stitches later, he was off rough housing once again.
Like stated before, James was a quiet kid, often being teased for being a dork and a bookworm. He went through books like his brothers went through girlfriends; quickly and sometimes unsatisfied. He went through high school like any normal kid. It was filled with homework, slushies, and sometimes the odd pottery class he went to. However, in his sophomore year, his second eldest brother - the less of the jerk of the three - urged him to try out for Carmel Highs football team, the Eagles, along with him. Of course, James was hesitant, only experiencing the sport on the tube with his old man. But when Greg urged him some more, James gave in and tried out. It turned out that he wasn't so bad, at least to the Coach's standards. A few weeks later he then was told, by the Coach himself, that he made quarter back -which surprised him, considering he knew almost nothing about the game.
Turns out that he didn't really mind the hard work and the grueling pain, he actually kind of liked it if he was being honest.
He, like the rest of the team, trained, trained, and did some more training. Even on weekends, he was clad in his uniform, passing the ball and running for his life to the goal. And when game night came, the Eagles weren't so bad, considering they had a new quarter back. In senior year, however, he got grilled badly and broke his shoulder -the same shoulder that was broken when he fell off the fence when he was a kid- and was taken out for almost the whole year. He decided that that was the last of his glory days, and instead of taking that scholarship, he decided that the only thing in his future was business school.
He sold paper for a while after he graduated from high school, but when the business went under a year later, he was unemployed once again and had to move back in with his parents. Zane, the eldest son, came to visit and saw that James was just sitting there, eating cereal out of the box on the couch. He hadn't shaved in days and he probably didn't even take a shower in that amount of time. Zane only slapped him on the back and 'accidentally' left a teaching broacher on the couch when his visit was over. And that's when James decided to become a History teacher.
He went to college and got a teaching degree, and spent his mid-twenties teaching at McKinley high. He didn't hate his job, but he didn't like it either. The kids were so rowdy and they never paid attention to what he was saying. He kind of felt like he was meant for something bigger, something better than teaching History to kids who probably didn't know their state Governor. When he was a few months shy of his 27th birthday, he looked into the wanted section of the Ohio state newspaper and found that Carmel High was looking for a Football coach.
