HISTORY,
- birth: mary cooper gave birth to a baby girl in the dead of winter -- in the middle of a snowstorm, in fact. she was allowed to hold the baby after the birth, but after a few minutes, she gave her back to the doctors. she said that she was a cute baby, but she would be too smart. no one paid particular attention to this as they let the father hold the baby next. the father seemed much more fond of the baby than the mother. he was the one who named her lyric, because she inspired him to write hundreds of new songs. the day after lyric's birth, mary was sent back to prison, where she'd be for a good long while thanks to her previous deeds, and lyric was sent home with her father, who was her legal guardian.
- early childhood: lyric had a pretty simple early childhood. she was an interesting child, and smart, as her mother predicted. she didn't get along with other children very well; when forced to, she'd play with them, but she preferred being by herself, where she would read (she started reading when she was just four years old), draw, or build "experiments" out of random objects in her father's small house. she liked talking, but adults tended to not take her seriously, thanks to her age, so she avoided them, too. but she loved her musician-father, who she never called anything but "daddy." (she wasn't told of her criminal mother until she was older.) she could often be found singing with her dad as he played guitar. for the most part, she was a happy kid.
- grade school: at around the age of seven, lyric and her father moved. it was the second time she'd moved since she was a toddler, but after that, she became very used to moving. it seemed they had a new house every year, as her father kept looking for new jobs, trying to make ends meet while still pursuing his dream of making it big with his old guitar. lyric attended quite a few different grade schools, but she never became attached to any of them. she continued to be a bit anti-social, keeping to herself, burying her nose in books, and singing with her father.
- junior high: lyric attended two different junior highs, and during this time, she seemed to come out of her shell a tad bit. she only had a small group of friends, but she started sharing her love for artsy things with them as she had not done earlier. she started experimenting with hair dye and makeup -- luckily her easy-going father was completely fine with it. she was far from popular, but she wouldn't have it any other way, staying true to her nerdy self. moving from place to place, from school to school, and having her fair share of bullying still made her pretty tough, though. she could understand and handle people even if she'd rather avoid it or stick with her friends who were more like her.
- now: the summer before she started high school, lyric's father got a small record deal, and they packed up their things yet again to move to ohio. he promised her that they'd stay there for at least two years this time, so lyric was pretty content. she found a job and started getting ready for school. her father saw that the new high school she would be attending had a glee club, and quickly encourage her to join. lyric hesitated at first -- she'd only sang before in front of her father, not in front of others. she wasn't even sure she was that good. but her father said she'd fit right in, and it would help her make friends. so, more for her father than herself, lyric joined, praying she'd fit in at least a little bit.
